Pál Závada: Jadviga's Pillow

A novel with a strange, sorrowful atmosphere. The diary-format is rendered especially realistic by other protagonists' additions and comments, the style of writing that changes as the time does, remaining always beautiful. The protagonists are real people who flounder, blunder while full of goodwill, and who are separated by incomprehension.
Topic: the story of a married couple, the development of their relationship, from many points of view, scattered with the everyday reality of the tót people (Slovakia) of the second World War period.
Size: long, but one doesn't realise it. I leapt it all up in two days.
Unfortunately the book is not available in English (yet?), in German it does exist, though.
